Meet Berny

Berny is a big, beautiful boy who is looking for his forever home.  He is six years old and weighs approx 65- 70 kg.

Berny was handed in at APSA some years ago, sadly he was in no condition to be rehomed back then. He has been at the old APSA kennels for a while and at a foster home for the last year, where his foster family worked on him and he has come a long way.

Berny has all the normal traits of a St. Bernard; he dribbles, snores and farts out loud lol. He's very loyal, loving and protective. He has never had any issues with the other dogs at his foster home. He really loves a fuss and cuddles. He now even shows his playful side and does zoomies round the garden, he has become such a happy boy.

Berny is very strong on the lead. He needs to wear a muzzle while walking (which he doesn't mind) and he is very good on the lead when he wears it. Without it he can be quite reactive.

Due to his size and strength he definitely needs an experienced owner who knows how to lead a powerful breed gently but firmly. Knowledge about Saint Bernards and their specific needs would be an advantage.

All introductions, whether it is to humans or furry creatures, have to be slow and calm. When on walks, he walks pass cats without any issues but we have not seen him close up with cats.

He apparently has lived with children before he came to Apsa. He is not suitable for smaller children or frail adults, as he likes to lean in on you for fuss. In his past life he was allegedly used as guard dog.

Berny is neutered and up to date with his vaccines. We're currently looking for a home locally, in the Almería area, because we don't want to put him on a transport and we want his future family to come and meet Berny and his foster carers first.
